Captivating - Chapter 1 - The Heart of a Woman
Welcome summer vacation!!!! I am taking a two week online class that started yesterday, but this summer I am continuing to devote time to seeking the Lord more and more. I have chosen some devotional books to read this summer, and I am just going to blog on what I discover and find important that applies to my life and my walk with God.
The first book I have chosen is Captivating: Unveiling the Mystery of a Women's Soul by John & Stasi Eldredge. This book was recommend by a good friend of mine at school, and I am now finally finding the time to read it. I am super excited to see what I learn from it.
I have been on the go these last couple days visiting family, so this morning I took some time (too much time) to watch hallmark movies. They are my favorite, but when I watch them I always get in the state of mind that I have to be someone I am not or I need a boyfriend to be happy. It is a feeling that I need things or someone in my life to feel good about myself. But as I read the first chapter in this book, I begin to reflect that I am absolutely nuts for thinking such silly things. Why should I worry and dream about something so stupid. I mean, I hope to find the right person for myself someday, but it's in God's hands to when and how I find this person. Grant it, I could probably find a guy, but why date him if I don't see any potential for a future. That is what is wrong with our generation, but that is another story for another day.
Beauty is not about what features you have or don't have; it is not about if you workout or not; it is not about material things; and it is definitely not about how much make-up or little make-up you wear. It is about what is in your heart; it is about your confidence in your own identity; and it is about you just being you!
I fail with this, and I need to take my own advice.
Proverbs 11:22 says..
Like a gold ring in a pig's snout is a beautiful woman who shows no discretion.
Meaning a woman has no outward beauty if there is no beauty in her heart.
"This book is not about what you ought to do or who you ought to be. It's about discovering who you already are, as a woman. A woman who at her core was made for romance, made to play an irreplaceable role in a shared adventure, and who really does possess a beauty all her own to unveil. The woman God had in mind when he made Eve...and when he made you. Glorious, powerful, and captivating."
I look forward to discovering and sharing more material about this book as I read and reflect the words.
Take time to reflect your own thoughts about beauty.
God Bless.
